About Us
The Department of Mines & Geology of Sikkim was established in 1976. The aim and objective of the Department of Mines & Geology are to establish exploitable reserves minerals of the state, carry out geo-technical investigations, monitor water resources for public consumption and cater to geological input need of the Central & State Government agencies in the State.
The subjects dealt with by the Mines & Geology Department are notified vide Government of Sikkim (Allocation of Business) Rules, 2017 as amended from time to time. The very works under this Department are further allocated to sections namely Geologists (Geology Section), Mining Engineers (Mining and Survey Section), Chemists (Laboratory Section) Administrative Section and Accounts Section.

The Department does Collaborative studies of
o Glacial studies
o Groundwater studies with SDC
o Mineral exploration with MECL and GSI.
o Landslide inspection and stability assessment carried out in coordination with district authorities and line departments.
